Uploading orders in bulk

Quickly sync orders from sales channels into the Zonos Dashboard by uploading a CSV file. Once orders are uploaded, you can select them in the shipment list and create Japan Post labels.

CSV columns

Each row represents one item. Multiple items belonging to the same shipment share the same Order ID, and order-level values (recipient, carton, and customs fields) are merged across those rows — the first non-empty value per field wins.

The columns below are listed in the same order as the downloadable template.

Order ID	Yes	Unique identifier for the order. Repeated rows with the same `Order ID` are grouped into one shipment.
Item Name	Yes	Name of the item being shipped. Latin characters only.
HS Code	Yes	HS tariff code for the item.
Country of Origin	Yes	Two-letter ISO country code for where the item was manufactured (e.g. `JP`).
Item Price	Yes	Unit price of the item. Must be greater than 0.
Currency	No	Three-letter currency code for the prices in the row. Defaults to your organization's currency when blank.
Quantity	No	Number of units. Whole number greater than 0; defaults to 1.
Item Weight	Yes	Weight per unit. Must be greater than 0.
Weight Unit	No	Unit for Item Weight (`kg`, `lb`, `g`, or `oz`). Defaults to grams when blank. See Weight and dimension units.
Carton Length	No	Length of the carton. See Cartons.
Carton Width	No	Width of the carton.
Carton Height	No	Height of the carton.
Carton Dimensional Unit	No	Unit for the carton dimensions (`cm`, `in`, `mm`, or `m`). Defaults to centimeters.
Carton Weight	No	Weight of the carton.
Carton Weight Unit	No	Unit for Carton Weight (`kg`, `lb`, `g`, or `oz`). Defaults to grams.
Company Name	No	Recipient's company name. Latin characters only.
First Name	Yes	Recipient's first name. Latin characters only.
Last Name	Yes	Recipient's last name. Latin characters only.
Email	No	Recipient's email.
Phone	Yes	Recipient's phone number.
Address Line 1	Yes	Recipient's street address. Latin characters only.
Address Line 2	No	Recipient's apartment, suite, or unit. Latin characters only.
City	Yes	Recipient's city. Latin characters only.
Postal Code	Yes	Recipient's ZIP code.
State/Province	Yes	U.S. state name or two-letter code (e.g. `CA`).
Country Code	Yes	Destination country. Must be `US`.
End Use	No	`FOR_RESALE` or `NOT_FOR_RESALE`. Defaults to `NOT_FOR_RESALE`.
Shipping Amount	Yes	Shipping cost charged to the customer. Can be `0`, but the column cannot be blank.
Contents Type	No	Customs contents type. One of eight values — see Customs and declaration fields for the full list.
Licence Number	No	Export license number, when one applies.
Certificate Number	No	Certificate number, when one applies.
Invoice	No	Commercial invoice number.
Tax Code/VAT Number	No	Tax or VAT identifier for the shipment.
Pay Condition	No	Payment conditions for the shipment.
Remarks	No	Free-text customs remarks.
Sender's Reference Number	No	Your internal reference or purchase-order number.
Non-commercial	No	`true` for a non-commercial shipment; `false` or blank for commercial.

Cartons

The six Carton columns describe the box each shipment ships in. The dimensions and weight print on the Japan Post label, so Zonos does not auto-cartonize — supply real values.

Carton columns are optional, but if you provide a carton you must fill Carton Length, Carton Width, Carton Height, and Carton Weight together. A partial carton is ignored. When the units are blank, dimensions default to centimeters and weight defaults to grams (the CP72 customs units).

Cartons are order-level: on a multi-item order, set the carton columns on any one row for that Order ID.

Customs and declaration fields

These optional columns carry through to the Japan Post customs declaration on the label:

Contents Type — the customs reason for the contents. Accepts one of eight values, listed below.
Licence Number, Certificate Number — regulatory identifiers when an item requires them.
Invoice — commercial invoice number.
Tax Code/VAT Number — tax or VAT identifier for the shipment.
Pay Condition — payment conditions for the shipment.
Remarks — free-text notes for the declaration.
Sender's Reference Number — your internal reference or purchase-order number.
Non-commercial — set to true to flag the shipment as non-commercial.

Like the carton, these are order-level — set them once per Order ID.

Contents Type values. Use one of these eight, exactly as written:

`ECOMMERCE_GOODS`	E-commerce goods sold to a consumer (BtoC). The typical online order.
`COMMERCIAL_GOODS`	Commercial goods sold between businesses (BtoB).
`SALE_OF_GOODS`	A sale that isn't specifically BtoC e-commerce or BtoB.
`COMMERCIAL_SAMPLE`	Samples sent for evaluation rather than sale.
`RETURNED_GOODS`	Goods being returned to the sender or supplier.
`GIFT`	A genuine gift. Note that gifts have their own U.S. customs treatment.
`DOCUMENTS`	Paper documents with no commercial value.
`OTHER`	Anything none of the above describes.

ECOMMERCE_GOODS and COMMERCIAL_GOODS are not just labels — they set the pkgType Zonos sends on the Japan Post label call, so the BtoC / BtoB choice changes what prints on the customs declaration. Pick the one that matches the transaction.

Contents Type is also separate from End Use (FOR_RESALE / NOT_FOR_RESALE) and Non-commercial (true / false). A normal BtoC order is ECOMMERCE_GOODS with End Use FOR_RESALE and Non-commercial blank.

Weight and dimension units

Weight units (Weight Unit and Carton Weight Unit) accept kg, lb, g, or oz. Dimension units (Carton Dimensional Unit) accept cm, in, mm, or m.

For Japan Post the unit columns are optional and default to the CP72 metric units — grams for weight and centimeters for dimensions. Because the unit is read from your file, you can keep your data in the units your sales channel exports; Zonos converts the net weight to grams for the customs declaration.

You do not choose a service level in the CSV. Pick the Japan Post service level for each shipment when you create labels in the Dashboard — see Creating shipping labels.
