What you can do with your Verified Account

With a Verified Account, you can ship parcels under $2,500 USD to the U.S. via Australia Post without being stopped for lack of duty payment. Here's how it works:

1. You ship your package through Australia Post using your connected Verified Account.
2. Australia Post and Zonos ensure the package is marked as prepaid (we use a marker called a Declaration ID, tied to your tracking number).
3. Zonos bills you for duties and processing/clearance fees as shipments are processed by the post.
4. Zonos remits duties to CBP on behalf of Australia Post.

Note: Australia Post requires the QR code to be scanned only when you drop parcels off at a retail post office counter. The retail counter uses a different system that needs this scan to confirm the shipment and pass the data to Zonos. If you hand parcels to an Australia Post pickup driver or place them in a drop box, the QR code is not required because those systems record the shipment automatically.

How to create Australia Post labels with a Verified Account 

Print your labels from wherever you normally print your Australia Post labels. No additional steps are required. Australia Post will send shipment data to Zonos so Zonos can bill you for duties and processing/clearance fees.

Your Verified Account is no longer limited to U.S.-bound parcels. You can also use it to ship DDP (with duties and taxes paid) to:

• Canada
• The United Kingdom, for shipments valued under 135 GBP
• Select European Union countries: Germany, Sweden, and Denmark

Shipping DDP means duties and taxes are settled before the parcel reaches your customer, so they are not asked to pay anything on delivery.

How it works 

When you create a label for Canada, the UK, or one of the EU destinations, choose how landed costs will be paid and select Sender – Pay using a Zonos Verified Account.

The shipment will then appear in your Verified Account Dashboard, and Zonos will invoice you for the duties and taxes, just as we already invoice you for duties on your U.S. shipments.

Where you can select it 

The landed costs option is available in:

• MyPost Business (MPB)
• MyPost (Just Send It)
• Parcel Send
• The Australia Post APIs

Note: This option is not available in the eParcel online platform.

Using the API 

If you create labels through an Australia Post API, set landed_costs_payer to SENDER_PAYS_ZONOS on the item.

Prepaying at a post office counter 

Over-the-counter retail postage assessment transactions have also been enabled, and are available for the destinations listed above with the exception of Canada. Payment occurs over the counter and is not tied to your Verified Account.

If you do have a Verified Account, you can prepay online rather than at the counter. For example, a MyPost Business customer can create the label in MPB under the account tied to their Verified Account, then bring the article in with the label already attached for the post office to scan and lodge. No payment is taken at that point.

Fees on non-U.S. destinations 

Depending on the destination, you may see fees beyond the Zonos Clearance fee—for example a Postal Clearance fee charged by the post handling the parcel in the destination country, or a PDDP surcharge on certain EU destinations. These are not Zonos fees. They are assessed by the destination country or the post handling the parcel there, and which ones apply depends on where you ship.

How to calculate duty rates 

1. Go to Dashboard → Item Quoter.
2. Add your item price and currency.
3. Add your made-in country (where your item was manufactured).
4. Select destination country (limited to the U.S. in Dashboard Lite).
5. Enter your item description.
6. Click Get result.

Review returned duty rates for the postal service. You can use this calculation to know how much to buffer product prices or shipping prices to cover duty cost.

Best practices for accurate duty rates 

• Accurate descriptions: Use “sterling silver ring with gemstone” instead of “jewelry”.
• Country of origin: Where the product was made, not your business location.
• Pricing strategy: Add calculated duties to product pricing to ensure profitable DDP shipping.
